Metal Slug 2 offers the player arcade-style, side-scrolling gameplay featuring soldiers, powerful weapons, vehicles, and progressively more absurd opponents. Progression through levels happens by killing enemy units, freeing hostages, and picking up power-ups which alter the player’s weaponry. The addition of transformations and new types of enemies provides entertaining diversification in spite of the difficult rhythm of the gameplay. In boss battles, the player needs to understand how to avoid the attacks by creating space for themselves. The humorous graphics of the game still make it interesting to play.
